i'm on page 101
I have a feeling that Bob's mother Marian likes Shane.... just as much as she likes her husband joe. in the book, it mentions her speaking to Shane the same wasy as she'd talk to Joe. she also looks at them both warmly, is very affectionate, etc. It would make sense- Shane is charming in that mysterious civilized way, yet he's still very friendly and everything. but I'm surprised that Joe isn't acting jealous... in fact, he actually wants Shane to take over the family if Fletcher or Wilson kills him :(
i dont really understand why fletcher wants THAT valley so badly. they're in the middle of nowhere- he can just claim the one right next to it... there's plenty of land all around.
the book is starting to remind me of the movie Cold Mountain. there's the evil gunman who kill everyone who doesn't obey them... and then there's the warring, and the sense of danger everywhere you go.
